Alex Thompson
MSc, RD, IBCLC
Alex completed a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph and a Master’s degree in Foods and Nutrition at the University of Western Ontario. This education provided Alex with a solid foundation on the importance of nutrition in human health and ignited her interest in the speciality of maternal and infant health, however, it neglected the topics of breastfeeding and human lactation.
This led Alex to the Lactation Medicine program at Jack Newman’s International Breastfeeding Centre. There she completed extensive classwork and practical training and went on to sit the certification exam to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), the highest-level professional certification for lactation and breastfeeding care, recognized globally as the gold standard.
As a Registered Dietitian and IBCLC, Alex works with families in Toronto, North York, and Southern York Region both in private practice and as part of the Lactation and Infant Feeding Team Clinic at Kindercare Pediatrics. Her goal is to create a safe and non-judgemental space where families feel respected, informed, and supported in making infant feeding decisions.
